SQL agent service in vCenter machine

why we need SQL agent service in vcenter machine. Is it needed for sql express database or not?

Unless I missed something in the latest SQL Server editions, the Agent is not supported in SQL Express, and vCenter Server calls the required stored procedures directly rather than offloading the tasks to the agent like in the full SQL Server edition.

VirtualCenter 2.5, vCenter Server 4.x and vCenter Server 5.x use SQL Server Agent to run these SQL agent jobs to manage historical data.

is it required for the only Local Free database or only for remote database or both in that version?

If "Local Free" = SQL Express it don't use SQL Server agent... if isn't a SQL Express edition (local or remote) with will use SQL Server agent.
