Hi,
I'm planning to perform an in-place upgrade of our vCenter from 5.1 Build 1123961 to vCenter 5.5. Requirement is to retain the existing performance data of VMs, Hosts.
As per the table on page 6 of http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vcenter/VMware-vCenter-Server-5.5-Technical-Whitepaper.pdf , in-place upgrade upgrade looks like will retain the performance data.
Just wanted to confirm if this is practically true or we need to consider any instructions or guidelines, before performing in-place upgrade?
Please advise.
Hi,
correct, when doing an inplace upgrade you will keep your database, which contains your historic performance data.
Yes, make sure you have a full backup of vCenter Server and its database before proceeding.
Are you using a Backup solution?
I'm planning to take backup of the vCenter Database before performing in-place upgrade.
Perfect.
Hi,
Yes, you are right. Historic performance data will be retain. Take vCenter server and database backup before proceeding with activity. It is best to be on safer side.
