Issue deploying a virtual appliance - unsupported disk 7

Hi,

I downloaded a virtual appliance and uploaded to my datastore (Infoblox IPAM). I imported the virtual appliance by adding the disk to my inventory, however I get an unsupported disk 7 error. I ran the command on the vmware kb (link below), but a second disk does not get generated.

Can someone expalin if vm's for workstation/player are different to vsphere/esxi? Do I need to convert these using a tool, despite the file format being the same?

VMware KB: A virtual machine fails to power on with the error: Unsupported and/or invalid disk type

Thanks

Welcome to the Community,

desktop products like VMware Player and Workstation support additional virtual disk formats which are optimized for disk space savings. If you want to use a VM with such disk formats on ESXi, you either need to use VMware Converter or the vmware-vdiskmanager command line tool to convert the virtual disks to a supported format for ESXi.
