2 separate VM servers, will it work if I copy it's VMDK on my VM Player?

      Hi there,

I have 2 separate VM servers in my environment, 1 is the application and another is the database however both are workgroup servers, If  I were to copy out both VMDKs and run them on  my personal laptop, will the application still work or must I do some kind of configuration? All I need is just the VMDK files right?

I am very new with VM hence pardon if this question sounds a bit dumb.

      Thanks.

          Welcome to the Community,

a VM consists of a couple of files, e.g. the configuration (.vmx) file, virtual disks (.vmdk), ..., so you'll usually need to copy the complete VM's folder with all files. Whether the VM's will work on VMware Player without modifications, depends on the source (which product/version is in use?) and e.g. the VMs network settings. Anyway, you will likely be able to make this work with minor modifications.
