Power usage not displayed

I have four ESXi hosts (5.1 and 5.5)

vSphere 5.5 Web Client
Monitor/Performance/Advanced

when i set

Chart Metrics: "Power"
Timespan: Realtime
Chart Type: "Line Graph"
Target Objects: All
Counters: "Cap", "Energy usage", "Usage"

i cannot view graphs (all values = 0)

why i cannot view power usage on my hosts?

I'd say you can get this info only if your hardware supports it. But common PSUs do not have sensors for power (or current), only voltage. So check hardware-status, if your PSU can supply this kind of information. If you see there neither current, nor input/output power, then there is no way how ESXi could display power usage...

I check Monitor/Hardware Status/Power:

Host1) no info about Watts

Host2) 35 Watts + 205 Watts

Host3) no info about Watts

Host4) no info about Watts

Why Host2 displayed power info in "Hardware Status", and not displayed in Monitor/Performance/Advanced/Power usage?

I think JarryG is right about this. I checked our environment and indeed the "older" hardware isn't showing any information. Newer hardware gives a nice view about this information. Also make sure you use the latest drivers and components from your hardware vendor.

The ones that don't show power statistics:

HP DL585 G5

HP DL585 G6

The ones that show power statistics:

HP DL380 G7

HP DL585 G7

HP DL380 Gen8

My Host2 hardware have "power" sensors.

Why Power usage graphs not displayed in Monitor/Performance/Advanced?
