Updating ESXi 5.1.0, apply Update 2, advices please

Hi guys

I'm planning apply Update 2 complete to my VSphere plataform using Update Manager. My suite contains:

7 ESXi hosts 5.1.0

1 vCenter (with a remote SQL Server database)

1 Site Recovery Manager (with a remote SQL Server database)

1 Operations Manager

1 Infrastructure Navigator

Also, i have a remote datacenter with 3 ESXi host (5.1.0 too) for DRP purposes.

I need your wisdom and experiencie, because I've never apply any patch on my ESXi hosts.

Do you have a tip, a document, advices or something to take into account?

Thanks

Evening,

For the methods here is a link: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=205835...

It talks about 5.5 but the methods apply to 5.1.  As for the upgrade it's pretty simple.  Upload the zip file to Update manager.  Put a host in maint mode and do one at a time.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thanks,

J

You can do the patching from command  line as well with esxcli .

Have a look @ http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=200893...

Hope this helps!!

HI,

Follow these steps :

**** Take a full backup of the Vcenter Database and all the other components database.

**** Take a snapshot of the DB and the VC server if they running on a VM.

1. Upgrade your Vcenter.

2. Using upgrade manager apply the patches to one host at a time ( put the host in maintenance mode and then patch it, moving the VMs off the host)

3. I am not sure if you are going to upgrade SRM ( please let me know ).

Let me know if you need any further information.
