Storage DRS, Move a virtual machine that resides on datastore not member of SDRS

Dear All,

If I've set up storage DRS which contains for example DS1 and DS2. I've another virtual machine which resides on DS which is not part of SDRS cluster. Can I move this virtual machine to one of datastore to (DS1, DS2) ? OR will this make some disturbance ?

Thanks,

Wajeeh,

That is correct on both cases. YOu can just let SDRS place it for you (which is my suggestion), but i thought you wanted it to go to a specific datastore.  That being said you can re-enable SDRS for a VM under the SDRS edit settings if you ever do disable for a VM

Yes you can move it to a datastore inside the SDRS cluster, but you just have to check the box to "disable sdrs for this machine"  in order to select a specific datastore.  This will keep it out of the calculations and movements on DRS, but you can go re-enable under the SDRS settings tabs on a per VM basis.

See the KB below on SDRS per virtual machines.

it will not make any disturbance, if you have enough space in cluster, you can migrate VM's with out any issues from any data store to SDRS cluster. .

Hello Markdjones82,

If I check the box 'disable sdrs for this VM', you mean to say that later SDRS will not include this machine for any of its recommendations ? Meaning that SDRS will not suggest me later at some time where it is appropriate to keep this machine as a recommendation (using sdrs manual mode)?

What if I don't check the box 'disable sdrs for this VM' and just pick the datastore cluster, what will happen if I click next, will sdrs suggest me where it want to place the virtual machine ?
