VMware View 5.2 - 3D Enable

Hey Guys,

I'm running View 5.2 and I use Samsung NC241 Zero Clients PCoIP on ESXi 5.1 256GB RAM. In order accommodate our clients with Google Earth and their overlays we needed to enable 3D and up the video memory to 256MB. My question is where the video memory is coming from if the host doesn't have any GPU accelerator cards? Is it being taken from the host memory? If a VM has 3GB RAM  256MB video memory does that mean its taken 3.25GB of memory from my host?

Any help would be appreciated.

Virtualization of memory resources has some associated overhead and the video memory is one of them.

So you are correct, it will consume more then the allocated ram, how much more depends on the configuration of the virtual machine.
