Wireless Entry Into Workstation

I am using Workstation to run Siemens development software. New Version of the Siemens software, TIA Portal, wants to talk to PLC and other devices using Ethernet. I have established a connection into my VM and into the Siemens s/w using a hard wire connection to the host and then into the guest. I can not get wireless to work and must have something set up in my network adapter incorrectly. Can anyone help please.

thanks,

Mark

To be able to help, please provide some details about your configuration. How did you configure guest networking (Bridged or NAT)? Please describe the issue you see more detailed.

In case you are using Bridged networking, you may want to check whether selecting the Wireless adapter from the drop down list (rather than using Automatic) for the Bridged network makes a difference!?

PS: I'm talking about the "Virtual Network Editor" for selecting the wireless adapter..

Thank you for your reply.

I am using a laptop running Win7 64 as the guest and have configured the VM with Win7 32. I have VM configured with one network adapter and it works with the cabled LAN  but not through a wireless connection. (Wireless works normally for the Host. I changed from NAT to Bridged in order to get any communication working.

Siemens development software for PLC automation is TIA Portal. I have this installed in a VM. TIA is used to develop the application software for Siemens PLCs, HMIs, and other devices on a control system network. The PLC communicates with TIA via Ethernet. I have a network switch connected to the LAN via a cable. I have the PLC, and my laptop connected to the switch. I have this working. I can connect my laptop to another LAN node via cable and communicate over our LAN from TIA to the PLC. I can not connect TIA via a wireless connection.

Laptop has 8GB ram and the VM is configured with 3GB with a 60GB drive.

Such a old Thread but thought if answer can be given so here it is.

As vmware said in case of Using bridged networking with a wireless NIC that Support for bridged networking does not guarantee that the virtual machine can successfully receive an IP address. IP addressing depends on the DHCP server.

So if there is this kind of scenario you must check with the DHCP server. if you are using office network for this so you must check there is not any policy is overriding your network settings as normally these network policy not allow you to server 2 mac address in 1 port.

Also must take reference of this Document to configure the network in your laptop. Hope you can make it through from this. VMware Workstation 10 Documentation Center
