Mouse Integration broken after upgrading Tools

I'm having problems with the mouse cursor after upgrading VMWare Tools.

When I first installed Ubuntu 13.10 in VMWare Player 6.0.1 on a Windows 8.1 x64 host, I used the easy install method and was up and running in no time. The forward/back buttons on my mouse didn't work in the VM, though the mouse wheel did (in VirtualBox, it was the opposite).

I figured I'd try to upgrade the VMWare Tools, so I mounted the Tools ISO, copied the Tools tar.gz to /tmp, uncompressed it, and ran `sudo ./vmware-install.pl` from the resultant folder.

Everything seemed to go smoothly, and I didn't note any error messages, so I restarted the OS. Now the mousewheel and forward/back work flawlessly (yay!) but there is something weird going on with the cursor grabbing. Specifically, when the mouse leaves the VM window and returns, the first click causes the mouse cursor to jump back to the location where it left originally. I'm also shown two cursors: one is the host cursor and one is the guest cursor. There's no way of visually telling them apart, you just have to move the mouse around to see how the environment reacts.

I've tried reinstalling VMWare Tools again, but no luck. I even tried running in Gnome3 to see if that helped; it didn't. Any thoughts on how I can fix the cursor?
