vcenter Server 5.5 cannot login

Hi all,

I cannot login using vsphere client into my vcenter server. I installed the simple install.

I installed the VMware vCenter Server for Windows and related modules on a Windows Server 2008 R2.

Installation finished successfully. I cannot login with vsphere client. It say I do not have permissions.

Only login which works, is by webbrowser https://server-ip:9443 but there I cannot add hosts etc. just viewing that its empty.

I am sure I missed something but don't know what.

Could you please help me ?

Kind regards,

Roland

Please login into the https://server-ip:9443/  with administrator@vsphere.local user and the password you set during installation. Your vcenter will then show up in the inventory. After that you will be able to add the hosts.

I have another problem. After adding my first host it does not let me add a second host.

It ends with an error "general error" cannot connect host, error connecting to host.

But when I connect using vsphere client to connect to mentioned host I can connect successfully.

I don't understand what's wrong. Our license key allows up to 3 hosts.

the host which fails is vsphere 5.5, the host which I could add to vcenter server is vsphere 4.1

Kind regards,

Roland

How many processors do you have on 4.1 hosts? Are you able to ping the host from vCenter server?

Is the firewall up on vCenter server?

on 4.1 host we have one 1 socket (4 cores).

yes I am able to ping the host from vCenter server (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1).

yes the firewall is up on vCenter server. Even if I turn off the firewall on vCenter server I couldn't add it to vCenter server.

on the 5.5 host we have 2 sockets (each 6 cores) this is the host I am not able to add to vCenter Server.

we are moving exchange mailboxes from one local exchange server to another local exchange server.

could this be a reason, why I cannot add my vSphere 5.5 host to vCenter server ?

Kind regards,

Roland

this morning I notice a error message in the event logs of our vSphere 5.5 host. "The ramdisk 'tmp' is full, As a result, the file /tmp/.SwapInfoSys.lock.LOCK.33980 could not be written." Is this error the cause for my problem adding this vSphere 5.5 host to vCenter server ?
