view 5.3 MMR doesn't work on windows7

In order to perform MMR on windows7 desktop, what steps need we do?

We can not make MMR work on windows7 desktop via PCoIP. We have done below things, is there any additional settings?

1.       1. Install connection server with package “VMware-viewconnectionserver-x86_64-5.3.0-1427931”.

2.       2. Install 5.3 agent with package “VMware-viewagent-x86_64-5.3.0-1427931” on virtual machine, the OS of which is windows7 SP1 x64.

3.       3. Install 5.3 feature pack with package “VMware-Horizon-View-5.3-Remote-Experience-Agent-x64-1.0-1404669”.

4.       4. On Thin Client, ensure view client 2.2 is installed, and the OS is wes7E. The thin client has graphics card which can decode H.264.

5.       5. Connect to virtual desktop with client 2.2 via PCoIP. Play a media of h.264 format. MMR can not work.

Refer to vmware’s white paper( http://www.vmware.com/pdf/horizon-view/horizon-view-53-feature-pack-document.pdf), we tried access virtual desktop through secure network, MMR still can’t work. We want to confirm below setting, but we can not find the key ”HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\VMware,Inc.\VMware VDPService\handshakeTTL in our virtual desktop.

Procedure

1 Start the Windows Registry Editor on the virtual desktop.

2 Navigate to the Windows registry key that controls the MMR validation handshake.

Option Description

Windows 7 64-bit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\VMware,Inc.\VMware

VDPService\handshakeTTL

Windows 7 32-bit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\VMware,Inc.\VMware

VDPService\handshakeTTL

3 Increase the handshakeTTL value to a number that is greater than 5000.

4 Restart Windows Media Player on the desktop to allow the updated value to take effect.

This problem has been resolved. After enable 3D Rendering, MMR can work.

Per Pg12 of VMware Horizon View Feature Pack installation and Administration Guide:

System Requirements for Windows 7 Multimedia Redirection To support Windows 7 Multimedia Redirection (MMR), your Horizon View deployment must meet certain software and hardware requirements.

Horizon View desktop

  • The desktops must run 64-bit or 32-bit Windows 7 operating systems.
  • 3D Rendering must be enabled on the desktop pool.
  • The desktop virtual machines must be virtual hardware version 8 or later.
  • Users must play videos on Windows Media Player 12 or later.

Can you try with a laptop with a supported GPU instead of a thin client?

Hi Linjo,

You might be correct, then I think this statement might be confusing. This is from KB

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102617...

"As a workaround to MMR with PCoIP not being supported on Windows 7 desktops, VMware recommends you to use Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) with Windows 7."

I think the "VMware VDPservice" can't be found is the key point.

VMware Horizon View 5.3 Feature Pack 1 Release Notes

Can you please verify the following?

Known issues:

After you install Windows 7 MMR with the Remote Experience Agent installer, you must restart the View Agent service or restart the desktop operating system to initiate Windows 7 multimedia redirection.
