Automate root password change on hosts connected to vCenter.

Experts,

We’ve to change the root password on hosts (4.1U1, 5.1GA) connected to  multiple vcenters (4.1U1, 5.1GA). We will use PowerCLI to automate the task.

Please help me to clarify the behavior after password change.

  1. Do we need to disconnect and connect the hosts to vcenter with the new password?
  2. OR Do we need to disconnect the hosts before changing the password?
  3. Do we need to conscious about any other impacts/known issues due to the roor password change?

Please provide if there is script to do this if you are aware.

No, vCenter only needs the root account for the initial connection.

vCenter will define a new account (vpxuser), and use that for further connectivity.

Thanks Luc, Do we need to disconnect and reconnect the hosts to vCenter once the password is changed?
