If we use hp based esxi iso for esxi installs, do we need to use hp based updates through update manager?

My manager just came back from HP VirtualConnect training and they said if we use hp based esxi, we should be using hp based updates in update manager.  I have never heard this before.  Is it true?  If so, do we also include Vmware updates?  Seems like they may cause issues with each other or at the very least we may be installing updates that have already been installed.

Thanks for any info or advice here!

Hp doesn't provide the VMware updates, but maintains a web site and repository for the HP based add-ons. Please take a look at http://vibsdepot.hp.com/ for details and how to integrate the repository in Update Manager.

With the newer HP equipment, you may not have a choice but to use "HP-Based ESXi" - which is really just ESXi with the right drivers for the new components (esp network cards)

The HP updates are for their drivers and agents and work fine integrated with VUM.

For instance, one of the HP vibs is titled "HP Agentless Management Serve Bundle for ProLiant Gen8"

And you still need to get the updates from VMware as well
