Can i configure a dvswitch with 1 physical NIC

Hi,

A quick question.

i wanted to run some tests related to netflow, so i will be installing a dvswitch

I would like to add 2 hosts eaching having a single pNIC.

is there any pre-req on minimum number of pNICs ?

would the dvswitch work if a host has only 1 pNIC (uplink port) ? will i be still be able to remotely manage the esx hosts?

Thanks.

No, there is no such minimum number of physical pNICs. It will work fine with a single dvUplink without disruption if you prepare the a dvSwitch and then use the migrate vmkernel/vm portgroup wizards while you assign the uplink to it.

Worst case you can still fix things from the cli with esxcli or esxcfg-vmknic/esxcfg-vswitch.

Yes they would work with 1 pNIC per host. It totally depends on how you want to design it.
