Hi Support Team,
We are trying to connect the host from Vcenter server. However it is giving the below error message.
""License not available to perform the operation. The host is licensed with VMware vSphere 5 Essentials. The license edition of vCenter Server does not support VMware vSphere 5 Essentials.""
We have explicitly copied the license key in host, also adding the license key while adding the host in Vcenter server. But getting same error message as above.
Please find the attached screen shot for error messages.
could you please provide the solution for this ASAP?
Thanks & Regards,
Raghav.
Hii
Thanks for all your help , I got the solution problem is from BIOS date , when i changed system BIOS date then its working fine
Can you try adding ESXi license into vCenter Server before adding the host.
VMware KB: Licensing ESXi 5.x and vCenter Server 5.x
yes i do , but same error is getting which is shown below..
Ok just for clarification have you upgraded both your VC and ESXi host to ESXi 5.1 if yes from which version.
Have you checked you VC license ?
No i didn't upgraded , initially it was VCenter Server 5.0 on PC , i just un-installled it and install with a new version of 5.1 .. and on the target servers also i just installed Esxi5.1
And can you confirm what's current vCenter license edition.
Can you post a screenshot of your licensing pages from your vCenter please? Please hide licence keys
Regards,
Julien.
I have not entered 'licence keys' while adding host to vCenter Server ..
So that why you have this error message
You need to add your license key into the vcenter (Screenshot bellow)
And then when you will add an ESX, you will able to assign the proper license key.

Julien.
Below matrix will help you to understand better.
Now your have adding ESXi host with Essential license to a Evaluation version of VC which is not supported.
i also tried that one also , i entered licence key which i found while downloading the esxi installer 5.1 , but facing same issue,
Hum, i think you have downloaded the esxi hypervisor free and not ESXi , right?
Regards,
Julien.
Have you downloaded your ESXi from the link below
VMware vSphere 5: Private Cloud Computing, Server and Data Center Virtualization
yes i downloaded esxi hypervisor free
Can you download ESXi from the link posted earlier and trying using the license.
A esxi hypervisor free cannot be add to a vcenter. You need to reinstall your esx with esxi licensied version. Then you Will be able to add the host on your vcenter
julien
hi
can you send the screenshot of the licensing page with hidden licenses and expand the product section. it seems esxi is not assigned the concerned license and is shown under evaluation
This is the details of 'Licensing Feature' my ESXi5.1 host from vSphere Client
