is it possible to remove iso by editing vmx/vmsn file?

I have a few VMs with a bunch of snapshots (taken with and without the memory) that unfortunately reference an ISO on a datastore which I want to remove. Previously I had to fix this by going to each snapshot, removing the ISO via the vsphere client and retaking each snapshot until all references were gone.

Is there an easier way of doing this? Can I remove the ISO reference by editing vmx/vmsn files instead?

Thanks

so far as I know there's not a way to do exactly what you want, but a workaround is to remove the VM's from inventory, unmount the datastore, and then add the VM's back to inventory. I recommend exporting a CSV of all the VMX file locations before doing so, otherwise you may lose your mind trying to find lost VMX files (there are scripts to help with that as well).
