Unable to connect the USB device "" to the virtual machine (error code 13)

Hi there

I have got the following message when trying to connect a USB card.

Unable to connect the USB device "" to the virtual machine (error code 13)

Contact VMWare, Inc. technical support for assistance.

I even tried then to connect the Apple FaceTime HD camera and got the same error message. I reinstalled VMWare Tools and restarted Windows 7 but no luck. About to try restarting my Mac. I did a search in Google but could find no reference to error code 13, just error code 4. I am using VMWare Fusion 5.

Kind regards

Are there and Flags showing in the Hardware Tree in Device Manager on Windows 7, especially under USB...?

When you say "when trying to connect a USB card" what explicitly and specifically is this USB Device?

I am having this exact same error suddenly.  No matter which of 3 USB devices I attempt to connect to I get the same error message.  All three of these have connected without issue in the past, right up until tonight.  This is WIndows 7 64 under VMware Fusion 5.0.3 on MacBook Pro OS X.  In response to WoodyZ, no problems displayed on the Win 7 Device Manager at all, not in USB.

I did what I required via an older toshiba laptop and I don't have time to troubleshoot the problem further so I can't be of much help.

I had a customer today who had a similar issue, issue was resolved by following the below steps: -

- Shutdown the VM

- Click on Virtual Machine > Settings > USB & Bluetooth

- At the bottom of the pane, click on Advanced USB options

- Remove and re-add the USB controller

- Start the VM and try connecting the USB devices

Hopefully this resolves your issue too 🙂
