could not connect internet from vmplayer ubuntu

Hi,

I installed vm player 5.0 in my windows 7 laptop.

I also install Ubuntu 13.0 using vmplayer.

But the issue is, I could not connect internet though Ubuntu.

I can ping Ubuntu from Host machine(win 7). But the reverse is not happening.

I also tried all possible conditions by changing Network type(NAT, Bridged etc). But nothing works out.

I think something in win 7  is blocking all the request.

Any suggestion ?

Thanks,

Bidyasagar

Welcome to the Community,

pinging the Windows 7 may be blocked by the Windows firewall. Anyway, you should be able to reach the Internet with either Bridged or NAT networking. How did you configure the network settings in the Ubuntu guest? Is it configured as DHCP client? In case of Bridged you should get a lease from a physical DHCP server (e.g. your Internet router) and in case of NAT the VMware Player DHCP service will provide the lease.

HI Andre,

Thanks for the reply.

I also felt the same. The host OS(win 7) blocks the packet from guest OS. As I am using office laptop. I think there could be some security software blocks it.

Here windows firewall is off.

One think I noticed is, I can do internet from my guest os using my mobile modem(PPP) .

Its not possible through wifi or wire.

To see whether this is a host OS issue, try to ping the Win7 Client from another system on the network.

Regarding the guest. With NAT configured, what did you try to ping? The host's virtual NAT adapter's (vmnet8) IP address or its physical IP address?

In case of Bridged, open the Virtual Network Editor and try to select the connected NIC for the Bridged network from the drop-down list, rather than "Automatic" to see whether this helps.

I can ping my host win7 OS from other win7 OS in network.

Regarding the guest, I tried to ping vmnet8 IP from guest.  But it did not receive any reply.

As you said, I configure the bridge network. Now I can ping from both side. Smiley Happy

I observe both Host and guest are in same network in bridge connection.

But the issue is, I can not connect internet from Guest OS. Even I configured DNS server in Guest. But no luck.

I tired to ping google.com from shell command prompt.

          ping: unknown host google.com

Please provide the network settings for the host (ipconfig /all) and the guest (IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS server).
