vSphere Authentication proxy - HELP !!!!

Hey All

I've been trying to get VAP to work but it keeps failing and I dont even know where to start troubleshooting the problem. My issue is simply when I try to install it it keeps coming up with an " Error 29106: Unknown Error ". I've done some searching around and no one seems to have an idea of what my issue is pertaining to:

My setup is as as follows:

- Win2K8 STD x64 SP1 OS (as per the install doc)

- Has Auto deploy installed locally (as well as vCenter 5.1 up1)

- I am not using any type of certs (except the self signed one)

I'm trying to install it using a domain account (that has access to the entire domain) and it goes through fine but then right towards the end it fails with the above error and rolls back (not leaving any logs to query). If anyone can help me (or point me to some log files that can help) that would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know if the account that it creates as per the documentation quote below:

" When you install the vSphere Authentication Proxy service, the installer creates a domain account with appropriate privileges to run the authentication proxy service. The account name begins with the prefix  CAM- and has a 32-character, randomly generated password associated with it. The password is set to never expire. Do not change the account settings."

I take it from that we cannot change the name of the domain account. The reason why I ask is we have strict procedures as to the naming of domain accounts in my company and this naming context would go against our naming standards. (Is there an entry in the VC advanced settings area that would allow you to change the name maybe??)

Thanks for any help in advance

With regards to the error message, this is listed in the 5.1 release notes - I know it is a different component (Auto Deploy as apposed to VAP), but perhaps the same scenario applies;

vSphere 5.1 Release Notes

Auto Deploy installation fails if the installation path includes non-ASCII characters
If you select a folder that includes non-ASCII characters when you run the Auto Deploy installer, the following error results
: Error 29106.Unknown error.

Workaround: Select a folder that includes only ASCII characters in the path name.

Cheers,

Jon

thanks for the reply jrmunday

However my installation path is as follows " d:\vmware\vmware authentication proxy " unless the spaces might be an issue ?!?!? (or maybe length might be a problem). I was looking through the 5.1 upd 1 release notes and they didnt mention the "unknown error" issue so I assume that it is no longer relevant in 5.1up1. I've tried it without the spaces but still no joy - fails straight away. Smiley Sad
