This should be posted into one of the product forum areas - which VMware product are you using?

Hello,

This post has been moved to the Virtual Machine and Guest OS forum. For ESX/ESXi: Full image level backups of a virtual machine disk are possible without in VM agents if the virtual machine disk is a VMDK, or virtual RDM regardless of platform, however, if they are a physical RDM you will either need to use agents or something in the underlying hardware. For VMware Server, Workstation, Player, or Fusion you can do this from the Host OS outside the VM regardless of what is running in the VM.

It would help if we new the product in question as requested by scott28tt.

Best regards,
