Good morning all,
I am currently a VMware administrator for my company and have been working with the datacenter product for 5 years. I am certified on vSphere 5 (VCP5-DV). My company is tossing around the idea of purchasing vCloud Director and Horizon View the last quarter of this year. We are running Proof of Concepts of both. I will have the first choice of picking which product to lead into our production environment.
On a personal level, I am torn between which product to take the lead on. My decision will be based not only on my company needs but also on career advancement, growth and future employment possibilities.
The million dollar questions are:
I know these may be difficult questions to answer but I am curious as to what the other VMware Admins\Engineers are seeing in the industry.
Thanks in advance.
Tim
I see huge growth in both sectors so its difficult to say which is the best career path and in my opinion it is still too early to say who will be the dominant player in the Cloud and VIrtual Desktop space - either one I believe you will be gainfully employed for the next decade - the choice you will have to make is do you prefer dealing with desktop issues or datacenter issues but even this will merge as the virtual desktops move to the Cloud -
I have moved this thead to a more appropriate forum -
Thank you for your speedy response! I was thinking the same thing but it's good to here what others are thinking as well.
Thanks,
Tim
I agree it is always good to hear what others are thinking - one more point I will add is the complexity of the Cloud and Virtual Desktops will always mean that there will be a greater need for consultants to help companies like yours as they move to these new environments -
