Problems installing: Error code 29144

Hello

I am installing the latest version of VMWare Workstation 9 and the first time I uninstall the previous version and when installing the new one, it gave me error code 29144. I tried installing it again and same code.

What is wrong?

Thank you

Did you already try to reboot the host after uninstalling the old version and before installing the new one?

Looks like nobody here has a list of error codes (or VMware won't   release them).  Theropre  perhaps somebody can tell you where the installer log is.  Easy to finid in Linux  not sure about Windows.Try to reinstall the earlier verison WS - see what errors (if any) you encounnter.  If you can re-install WS 9.0.1 (or what ever is the earlier version) then tlry using the instructions in KB 1308 to completely uninstall.

Thank you for this thread!  I had the same problem when I let VMware Workstation do an upgrade to 9.0.2 (from 9.0.1).  VMware does not even have this error (29144) in its KB!

Any suggestions about what I do to perform a download-upgrade - it did not ask me to roboot after it automatically uninstalled 9.0.1 - it just went on installing 9.0.2 until the 29144 error - thus disabling my VMware.  I rebooted to reinstall 9.0.1.  It is asking me again to do an upgrade - I am deferring it of course.

Don't (ever really) update VMware WS S from within the program.  Instead downland the 9.0.2 installer file from the VMware Servers and install it without VMware WS open.  In addition it is a good idea to reboot even if WS doesn't tell you to and the icon appears.
