VMware Player 5.0.2 Powerin On Error -44???

Hi,

I am running VMware Player 5.0.2 build-1031769 with windows XP professional, and went to start it today and get erromessage that reads:

Error while powering on: Transport (VMDB) error -44:

Message.

The VMWare Authorization Service is not running.

I recently had problems with the new windows 7 updates (I am running x64 bit) and had restarting and explorer issues, but my VMPlayer was shut down ( I only start it when needed), so not sure what to try, I could find anything for the player version I have? Please let me know what to try.

Have a look at: Powering on a virtual machine fails with the error: The VMware Authorization Service is not running ...

Also you may want to do a repair install of VMware Player or uninstall/reinstall it.

Hi,  I was looking for a repair option, where do I find that at? I will take a look at the article too. Microsoft has really messed up stuff with their failed update install.

Will the unintstall/reinstall affect the programs, and such currently on my player?

*edit I did the first step of the link above, and the start option is grayed out when I right click, and when I open it. The status is set as disabled, but I have a manual, Automatic, and Automatic (delayed start) options in the drop down?

If you start the uninstall from "Programs and Features" in Control Panel under Windows 7 Host or "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel under Windows XP Host it should offer as repair option and if it doesn't then just uninstall/reinstall it.

Uninstalling/reinstalling VMware Player does not remove the Virtual Machines just like uninstalling almost every other application does not remove the work product thereof! Smiley Wink

It should be set to Automatic and should be Started.

Hi,  Thank you, I set it to automatic, clicked start and was able to launch my xp vm computer.

I did try the repair option, but it came up and said to use the install for my machine to do repairs to help anyone out in the future.

Thank you, I think it is working, I will try to start later to see if it was just a one time thing.

What you've said, how you've said it, is not clear and to avoid any confusion... here is a screen shot of the actual dialog box.
