How to Extend disk of a Virtual Machine on ESXi Host

How to Extend disk on a VM on esxi host 4.x or above
This article is writen keeping in mind that the VM to whose disk is being extended has one disk and two partitions. One of the partition is on which OS sits and the other is data partition.
-Login to vSphere client.
-Ensure there is sufficient storage available on your esxi host. Smart VMWare administrator will ensure 10% of total storage free.
-Select the VM and click edit Virtual machine settings on "Getting Started" tab. Otherwise you can simply right click VM and click edit
settings.
-On VM Properties page select the Disk to be extended. Add the size in front of Provisioned size. While doing so it is not necessary to shut down VM.
-Now login to VM to which you have added disk space. Go to Disk Management page and do a "Rescan Disks". You will see number of GBs added as unallocated space. you can reboot VM if needed.
-Now we will extend the partition using "DISKPART" utility. The Diskpart
