vmware workstation guest cpu maxed 100%

I just started using vmware work station. I am having a problem where my guest computer is always maxed or maxes out quickly and runs very slow. Host computer runs about 10-15% cpu usage

Host Specs:

i7 quad core processor

24 gb ram

ssd

win 7 x64

Guest specs (settings)

win 7 x64

4 gb ram

different ssd from host

set to 2 cores (1 cpu)

I have tried with 1 core and 2 cores but the guests keep running very slow. I have 2 guest systems set up. only using 1 and it mostly says cpu 100%

Any ideas? I am using vmware 9.0.1

please attach the VM's vmware.log file to your next reply post to understand your configuration. Also please take a look at the VM's Task Manager (or use Process Explorer) to find out which process(es) have high CPU usage.

I moved up the cores to 4 and it seems to be working much better. rarely over 50% cpu usage
