As I mentiond I am using vStudio 2.6 and the build profile I am authoring is VM not a vAppThanks again
Yep, you are right. I was surprised to see the invalid format message in the ui.
Vami will indeed take this value from the ovf properties if it is there. You can see it in the setnetwork code which is called and and this how you end up with the default name you get now. If the vami.hostname is not present you get the default. I had looked into this before answering since my original inclination was perhaps doing something through the custom postinstall script. This will not work however since vami will override that with the default name after not finding vami.hostname if the setnetwork flag is set which it usually is.
There might be a way to get this through in vcenter although I'm not familiar with vcenter. I'm asking people who have had more exposure with the product regarding this.
