Quiesced snapshot issues after upgrade from esxi 4.1 to 5.1

Hello everybody,

I'm facing a weird issue with 2 linux centos x64 vms after upgrading the physical host from esxi 4.1 to esxi 5.1 (it was working before.. with no config change).

In the host, a Dell PowerEdge T300, I've got 5 vms running: 3 centos x64, and 2 windows 2003 server.

When I try to do a quiesced snapshot on 2 centos boxes (the other one doesn't give the problem), the vm freezes with error "The guest OS has reported an error during quiescing. The error code was: 4 The error message was: Quiesce aborted", and I need to reset the vm to have it working again.

I don't know what causes this, and I'm not always able to replicate the problem because sometimes snapshot is taken flawlessly, in addition no logs are written on guest os.

Initially I thought it was a vmware tools issue so I:

- uninstalled vmware tools

- upgraded the whole system to latest centos release (5.8)

- reinstalled vmware tools with the new kernel

But even after the upgrade the vm keeps giving the same issue.

I also tried to use the vmsync driver but without luck.

The other vms don't suffer of this problem.

I really need to use the vmware quiesced snapshot feature due the backup solution we have which uses it.

Anyone has already faced this problem?

Any suggestion to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks

Hi Bob,

Unfortunately I didn't find a fix for this Smiley Sad

I tried everything and at last I ended up moving all vms on an another host and reinstall a fresh 5.1 esxi on the T300.

Now things are working properly.
