query on vm swap file.

hi experts,

Can a powered on VM have 0 Kb swap file ( <vmname>.swp )

This VM was deployed via vapp

Later on after some time when i put load on VM .I see a new swap file being created too

the datastore has a new swap file too ( <vmname+somecharacters>.swp)

so my vm has two swap files now Smiley Happy first one is zero ofcourse.

Why is this happening ??

why is the second swap file being created?

When is a swap file created? What is the purpose / use of it?

-sr

Hi

Yes, it is possible to have 2 .vswp files since vSphere 5.0.   Check:   http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=2051

The answer to the other question is also yes, you can have an empty .vswp if you are reserving the whome configured memory of the VM.
