[msg.disklib.FILENOTFOUND] The system cannot find the file specified

    sect0r Novice

I lost connectivity to my NFS storage earlier and all VMs came back but one (and it just happens to be the most important one).

It's a long story, but I don't have any backups to go back to.  I did, but I don't now so that's not an option.

If anyone can offer any help I would be extremely grateful!!

      Here is my directory listing:

Thank you for your quick reply.

          Yes, this is ESXi 5.1.

I'm not exactly sure how to answer your question, but I have not manually edited any of the .vmdk files if that's what you're asking.

please try suggestion from the kb I added to last post.

How come that you use preallocated split vmdks in ESXi 5 ???

This is an OLD VM that was a physical server at one point, then P2V'd to run in Workstation, then converted to run on ESX.  It's still running in HW 4 mode.  It's an old RHEL 3 server.

I'll check out that kb ... thank you.

did this VM really work before - I would have expected that it complains about the vmdk-type !

If you have the free space available import the vmdk with
                vmkfstools -i edb.vmdk edb-esxicompatible.vmdk

                  That did it!

I have spent the last 8 hours working on this.  I have restored from many different backups and ran into the same problem on each and was getting very nervous that my backups were somehow all corrupted.

Thank you very much for your help!!  You are truly a life saver.  I've been up all night and work starts in 30 minutes.  Sure hope they don't mind if I come in a bit late.

I'm still in the process of upgrading my ESXi servers so it probably either sat on one that wasn't upgraded or wasn't affected until it was rebooted.

I will look into converting it.  I just happen to have about 3 copies available on various FlexClones to play with so I will definitely look into that today.

Thanks again for your quick help!!

No kidding.  Nothing like trying to get command syntax right falling asleep at the keybord.    If this wasn't the most important server in the company I wouldn't have spent so much time on it.

If you have another second and don't mind answering another question .... same VM .... when I 'connect' the NIC I get Invalid configuration for device '0'.  I'm researching it now but figured I would run it by you to see if you could point me in the right direction.  Google seems to be all over the place with answers.

I was able to add a second nic to it with no issues (not included in this output).  I just need to get with the admin of this server so he can reconfigure his networking.  I don't have admin access to this server.

I would prefer to get this NIC working, though, if possible.

Fixed it by shutting the server down, removing all of the NICs, and adding new ones.

Then I had to work with the admin to get the interface to work.  For whatever reason we couldn't get any traffic out.  After about the 3rd reboot it started working.  Not sure if it was a MAC address propagation issue on the switch or what.

                              It's all good now!
