Filename <unspecified filename> was not found

Hi everyone,

I tried to expand a disk on a VM but it gave error that "Filename <unspecified filename> was not found"

Then i checked the datastore and see those -flat.vmdk files. Please ignore the RDM in VM names, it was previously converted from RDM disks, but they are not RDM disks, all of them are normal VM vmdk disks.

Here below I cannot find where is that VMX file
In VM - edit settings - options - Virtual Machine configuration file : [Exchange_Emc] EXC02_RDM/EXC02.vmx
Virtual Machine working location: [Exchange_Emc] EXC02_RDM/

But it is not there! you can see in the output below as well.

[root@esx8142 EXC02_RDM]# ls
EXC02_1-flat.vmdk
EXC02_RDM_2-flat.vmdk
EXC02_RDM_5-flat.vmdk
EXC02-flat.vmdk
EXC02_RDM_3-flat.vmdk
EXC02_RDM-flat.vmdk
EXC02_RDM_1-flat.vmdk
EXC02_RDM_4-flat.vmdk
EXC02.vmsd

I beleive first I have to find out where is that VMX file and convert as article: Recreating a missing virtual machine disk (VMDK) descriptor file
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100251...

Actual problem started with a request to expand a disk on this VM. VM is working ok but unable to expand any of the disks.

Is that true action plan for me?

Version: ESX 4.1.0, 348481

thanks
