VMware Player 5 won't play existing machine

I have been a virtual XP on Win 7 host for several years under various versions of VMware Player since v3.

After upgrading to ver 5 I cannot launch the existing virtual XP machine.

The error message cites the policies of the virtual machine as being too old.

AWhat can ber done to make it run.

Open the vmx-file in a texteditor.
Remove all lines starting with policy.*
If you have a vmpl-file inside the same directory - rename it

fix your explorer settings - it should display files with extension - then you will find your vmx-file

Have a look at Starting a virtual machine in Workstation 9.x or Fusion 5.x fails with the error: This virtual machi...which is also applicable to VMware Player 5.x.  See also the hyperlinks with the KB for further assistance.
