I had a ESX4 whitebox running for about 4 years (upgraded from ESX3.5) which ran without any issues.
Last week my motherboard stopped working. But as the motherboard is so old I cannot source a new 1.
Meaning that I will have to build a new server with new hardware etc. As all of my VM`s are on a array could I still see the array within ESX5i and some how copy then over.
Or what is the best way to get the VM`s from the array over to a new install of the Hypervisor ?
Thanks,
Maybe you can try connecting the array to a Linux system and use vmfs-tools to read the VMFS-volume, copy the VM's to a temporary storage until you have finished your ESXi 5.0 build?
More info on vmfs-tools: http://planetvm.net/blog/?p=1592
And maybe this: http://www.vft.com.au/computer-forensics/accessing-vmfs-partitions-on-an-esx-server-that-doesn%E2%80...
Later you can use converter to convert the machines if you aren't able to import them directly into VMware 5.0.
