Hello,
I am current testing VMware Fusion 5 and when I tried to import a virtual machine from Parallels Desktop 8 (Windows XP Prof), I got this error:
VMware Importer is unable to prepare your virtual machine to run under VMware Fusion.
The virtual machine cannot be imported.
I though WVware Fusion was able to import VMs created on Parallels. Am I wrong?
Thanks for any help.
Andre
Importing/converting VM's generally results in less than optimal results than a fresh install, however, you can also get VMWare converter, install it inside the Parallels VM, run it in Parallels, and convert the running OS directly to a Fusion VM. The only thing is that you'll need enough disk space for the new VM.
I Agree with you. However, since I just want to test to see if the version 5 of Fusion has fixed the issue when having two monitors on OS X Mountain Lion before buying the upgrade, this is the best and simply way to go.
If the VMware Importer does not work, they VMware should include some explanation on the FAQ or manual.
Will try the VMware converter right now.
Thanks
VMware Converter was able to convert the Windows XP from Parallels Desktop 8 to VMware Fusion 4.

The best I can recommend is to get the Parallels 8 trial version, then convert with converter.
I was using Parallels Desktop 7 with Mountain Lion before upgrading to 8.
Try to get the latest Parallels Desktop 7 build (I believe was 7.0.15107.778994).
