VM can not get IP address in Routed network configuration

I'm using ESX 5, vCenter and vCloud Director. I have created 3 networks: 1:1 and 1:N which are routed network (192.168.50.0) and an External network (connected directly to a 10.0.0.0 network). When I provision a VM with routed network (static IP or DHCP condifuration) the VM will not get the assigned IP. It happens with or without setting fenced option.

Any idea?

Couple of things,

1). Have you definitiely got the VM tools installed and does the VM have guest customisation enabled?

If not you must install the tools, right click the VM and choose install tools. Also you must enable guest customisation, right click the VM choose properties, select the "Guest customisation" tab and choose "Enable guest customisation"

2). Inside the vApp when you view the VMs do they have an external or internal IP address listed.

If they do it looks like vCloud is assigning an IP it is just not able to configure the VM. If not then it sounds like a problem with you IP range configured for the networks.

Hope this helps,

Charlie

Thanks Charlie. I ran guest customization and the VM got IP address. After that I found that I can not ping external network from VM. After investigation, I figured out that corresponding distributed port group switch was powered off. Afer power it on I was able to ping external network and VM is also visible from outside by pinging its external IP (it is attached to 1:1 NAT network)
