i have a perc 5i with 6 2tb drives on it, can i use this on esxi without having to reformat the array first??
Hi,
Refer to this document http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere5/r50/vsphere-50-configuration-maximums.pdf
It will give you information on ESXi configuration maximums.
Another document for some helpful information is http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2011/07/new-vsphere-50-storage-features-part-1-vmfs-5.html
You can have a 10TB storage but a datastore can only be of 2TB maximum hence you will have to create partitions of your 10TB storage into 2TB sizes.
Hope this information is useful

Hi Nikhil,
With vSphere 5, I believe the maximum datastore size is 64TB.
The maximum size of an individual vmdk is 2 TB - 512 bytes.
For OP, you can use the entire array without formatting as long as you are satisfied with the raid configuration.
Hi Tony,
Yes you are right in ESXi 5 the storage limit is 64TB as per the document I sent earlier of configurations maximum.
