How to Autofit Guest in VMware Player?

Hi,

I'm running WMware Player 4.0.4 and need to use the autofit feature for my guest.

I put the following lines to my ..\userprofile\Applikation Data\VMware\prefernces.ini file:

pref.autoFitGuestToWindow = "TRUE"
pref.autoFit = "FALSE"
pref.autoFitFullScreen = "fitGuestToHost"

These settings are working in VMware Worlstation 8 but somehow not in VMware Player 4.

Are there any other settings for WMware Player?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

- VMware Tools are installed

- Host -> W2K3

- Guest -> WinXP

Update:

I have noticed the autoFit feature is working when you change (resize) the player Window. But somehow it is not working when you change the resolution of the host.

If you run the Player in fullscreen after the host resolution was changed the guest has either scroll bars or shows a black frame. The player will autofit the guest resolution once you leave fullscreen but thats exactly what i don't want.

Anybody an idea?

I had the same issue and it was driving me mad!

I finally solved it by increasing the Video Memory on the virtual machine.

1. Power off the virtual machine

2. Right click on it in the inventory and go to "Edit Settings..."

3. Click on the Video Card

4. on the right hand side select "Auto-detect settings"

5. Restart the virtual machine

6. Go to Full Screen (For Real This Time!)

I guess the default is "Custom Settings" with 1 display selected and 4MB of Video Memory.  This must not be enough to go full screen on an HD monitor.

Hope This Helps!
