Dear friends,
I installed VMware-converter-all-5.0.0-470252.exe without errors. When I try to convert a "Backup image or third-party virtual machine" from a .tib file I get the "The source parameters are invalid" error. I checked the diagnostics files, but couldn't get an answer. I tried this on a Win7 and XP pc, but always got the same error.
P.S: The .tib file has been created by Acronis True Image Home 2011.
Would you please help me?
Please find the diagnostics file in the attachment.
Kind regards.
According to http://www.vmware.com/support/converter/doc/conv_sa_50_rel_notes.html only the following versions are supported
Acronis True Image Echo 9.1, 9.5, and Acronis True Image 10.0, 11.0 (Home product)
Version History:
Acronis True Image Home 10
Acronis True Image Home 11
Acronis True Image Home 2009 ==> Version 12
Acronis True Image Home 2010 ==> Verison 13
Acronis True Image Home 2011 ==> Version 14
Acronis True Image Home 2012 ==> Version 15
To restore a newer image you may create a new, blank VM, restore the image using the Acronis boot CD an then run the VMware Converter using the "Configure Machine" option to inject the necessary drivers.

Are you getting the same error message as in http://communities.vmware.com/thread/403891? If yes, most likely your version is not supported.
Dear a.p.;
Thank you very much for your quick response. As far as I see that I don't have an issue that doesn't meet the version. But; in the link you sent I noticed that converter doesn't support ubuntu 12. My image file is a backup of ubuntu 12 pc.
This could be the problem.
On the other hand I tried your advice on a blank VM. I restored successfully, but the vm wasn't able to boot. It always said that the machine wasn't shut down properly I got the than blue screen than the machine reboots.
That's why I can't exactly determine what the problem is.
You get a blue screen with a Ubuntu VM ???
that sounds strange ....
You have two problems then
1. Version of Acronis is not supported (you have successfully solved it by restoring the image in the VM)
2. Converter Reconfiguration does not work on Linux VMs - only on Windows.
So the second part of the reconfiguration cannot happen. Your best chance is to boot from an Ubuntu Live CD and try to repair the target VM manually. What Converter does is
1. Update/reinstall GRUB boot loader
2. Rebuild initrd image
3. Update /etc/fstab
