VUM cannot download patches and binaries from UMDS Shared Repository

Hi

My VUM server continually fails to download the patches i have in my shared repository on my UMDS server which is "published" via an IIS webserver on the UMDS server. I have tried reinstalling VUM and UMDS, checked all firewalls (local and external), permissions to the folder and tried to download from the internet to check the VUM DB etc works and the download works via the internet. I have also tried making the UMDS in varying locations and it still fails

When i insert the path to the UMDS folder and click validate it works and if i go via IE and browse to the folders it works and allows me to download the packages. But when i click the 'download now' button it starts the process, then sits at 50% as shown below and then after about two minutes it fails as shown the in the second screenshot. Has anyone experienced this?

You may want to check  your session timeout within IIS.

I'm not sure what you did. So, can you try this and change Connection limits from 120 to say..900. The fact that you said that it fails after 2 minutes makes me think it is a timeout issue.

  • Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager:
  • If you are using Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2:
    • On the taskbar, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  • If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    • On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    • Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  • In the Connections pane, and then click the Sites node.
  • In the Sites pane, click Set Web Site Defaults... in the Actions pane.

  • In the Web Site Defaults dialog box, expand Connection Limits, specify connection limit options, and then click OK.

Hi

I've set it to 900 and it still sits on 50% for quite a while then fails..

The permissions to the folder are correct and i can download the files via IE so it isn't blocked

After rebuilding the whole UMDS and the IIS it is now working. I'm assuming it came down to permissions on the UMDS folder via IIS. Now that it is working it says complete within 5 seconds. What i did do which i might have not done before (no way of checking seeing as i rebuilt) is i gave the service account running VUM on the VUM server full permissions to the UMDS folder.

I also ran iisreset after apply the permissions to make sure the site had the most up to date permissions when i tried.
