Beta 754035 is very buggy on Debian Squeeze 6.05--64

I thought the issue in this thread was fixed, it's not - I still can't access "Shared VMs", either:

          Hi kingneutron,

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the frustrating problems you are encountering.

I use Debian 6.05 64-bit on one of my work machines here.  By chance, I had to restart my host today (the nouveau open-source NVidia driver started throwing errors due to a known driver bug), and I also encountered the vmmon failure after restart that you described.  Obviously I don't reboot my host often...  I have filed an internal bug for the vmmon failure.  For the time being, you should be able to work around it with "sudo /etc/init.d/vmware start" after any host reboot.  If you're going to reboot often, you may be able to create your own symlinks in /etc/rc.d/ for /etc/init.d/vmware (and perhaps the other VMware services), but a flaw in the scripts installed into /etc/init.d/ means that update-rc.d and insserv probably won't be able to create those links for you.

I don't have any direct suggestions for the video driver hang.  I haven't had much luck with Linux video drivers in general lately...  If you don't mind "re-hanging" your system, I'd be interested to know whether your whole host hangs (i.e. can you ssh from another host into the one that's failing?), and whether there is anything interesting in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, in /var/log/kernel.log, or in the file .xsession-errors in the current X session user's home directory at the time of the hang.  I'm hoping there might be a hint there to point us in the right direction...

          Cheers,

          --

            Hi again kingneutron,

The Workstation Tech Preview July 2012 release corrects several issues with installation and service integration on Debian 6 hosts, particularly affecting the ability to launch VMs and use Shared VMs after a host reboot.  I'd greatly appreciate if you could give it a try and see if our improvements in that area have helped.

I still have no information on the video driver problem, though.  It is possible that the graphics guys have tweaked something there, too, but that is not my domain at all so I can only guess and hope.

I'd love to hear your feedback!

            Cheers,

            --

            Darius
