Tech Preview VM compatible with WS8?

    mfelker Expert

I created a Debian VM wit WTP   and copied x to Windows.  Then  installe d Ws 8 on Ubungu  host because all my Linux OS are now at kernel 3.5 and I don't think WTP will compile on those kernels because the fix for WS 8 (involving the .lzma file) does not work with WTP Beat  2 .  So I insstalled WS 8 instead.  Copied the WS TP VM  Windows back to Linux and even after changing the hardware compatiblity to S 8 won't open it complaining the VM was created   on a incompatible WS version  (which it was).   Here is the vmx file for the WSTP VM which works on Windows TP  but not o Linux WSS 8.  This may be confusing and if I should clarify I'll try to clarify the step anyway the following TP VMX wil lnot run on WS 8.  Will compatibity be available in a future TP releases.

You can make it compatible via the wizard at VM > Manage > Change Hardware Compatibility

Quickly looking at the VMX file you pasted, I think the only incompatible option in virtualHW.version, but I'm not positive. If you have a backup, you can try changing the "9" to an "8" and opening it.
