Same here unfortunately...
Same here, however I have had it installed previously but I can't remember if it was on my new mbp or old mbp and finally if it was 32bit or x64.
I downloaded the preview again just today and not entirely sure if the preview build has changed from when I did have it installed - just to rule it out.
Hopefully others might help eliminate a few more things.
I'm running Fusion
Version e.x.p (646683)
Similar problem, I have tried to install Windows 8 Release Preview and Windows Server 2012 Release Preview and I'm stuck at boot with error 0x0000005D.
I have seen that you have VMware Workstation 2012 Build 646683
I have checked and I have 646643, where have you downloaded the new build? Becaue I have checked Software Updates and found none.
Now I'm downloading again the build from VMware but file name is the same, VMware-workstation-full-e.x.p-646643.exe.
I don't know if this is a new build with an old file name, however I'll check the MD5 if is the same of the file that I currently have.
As per my post, i'm running Fusion, MAC equivalent of Workstation. I'm not up to date with PC / Linux tech preview build numbers.
But at least it is a problem across two platforms, so hopefully there is a solution coming if one doesn't exist already with internal only builds.
I have same issue.
Same issue on VMWare Workstation 8.0.3 build 703057.
I just experienced the exact same thing. When the OS reboots at the end of the installation it hangs - there is no conncection to any of the virtual devices shown in the icons. There was earlier in the install ation before the restart. This occured whether booting from CDROM or ISO image.
There are two things I'm going to try and I'll report back.
1) Try the installation on Virtualbox 4.1.6.
2) Install the previous Windows 8 CP which I know does install using WS TP
3) After installing the CP beta I will tlry to upgrade to Windows 8 RC since I know from MS posts sould be possible.
What I won't do is use WS 8.0.3 - I'm no longer interested in that version. Besides people have said that works.
Same problem, previous builds of Win8 worked fine.
Further testing showed
a) Works finie in Viretualbaox
b) CP installs as always - Virtualization for nested Hyper-V enabled
c) Can't update to RC because the OS will not boot either a CDROM or ISO ino order to perform the upgrade.
Something for VMware to work on. maybe we will get a new build of WS TP!!
Slightly off topic. I like the Fish splash screen much better than the black minimalist splash screen. Nothing I can see to recommend this over the CP.
I ended going down the virtual box route also, it only had a shelf life of about an hour on my laptop - the performance in comparison with vmware is terrible.
Hoping vmware releases a new tech preview build for us to test.
Please try adding the following option to your Windows 8 VM configuration file:
vmGenCounter.enable = FALSE
Boot is continuing.
What does that setting do?
