Getting Started

We are getting started on Backup and recovery and I've spent the last couple of days reading forum postings and documents and I'm still a little confused.

We are using the latest VMware product base.

We want point-in-time recovery and are looking at VMware Data Recovery (as opposed to Consolitdated), because DR just

seems better (see http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-16579)

But I'm a little confused still about how DR and Site Manager interoperate.

Environment

We have a windows machine and a linux machine running 7x24 to backup. Both have vendor databases that (I think that we need VSS - but I think that that is only available for windows).  I've started looking at using the Pre-Freeze and Post-Thaw exists, but I can't find much in the way of interface documentation for these exists.

So we want to backup each machine (at least daily). What product set should I be looking at?

thanks

jon

Additionally,  I was hoping to use the same solution for upgrade backups and not use snapshots. Any issue/suggestions with this?

Hi,

As per your query , to take the full VM backup and not just a snapshot , I will suggest you to go for Veeam Backup & Replication for vmware

http://www.veeam.com/vmware-esx-backup.html

OR if you want to go for snapshot backup then I will suggest you to go for NetBackup for VMware Solutions

http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/other_resources/ent-netbackup_for_vmware_solutions_10-2...

Thanks n Regards
