Hello
Recently I've tried to p2v a win7 x32 workstation by following this procedure:
1. Taking full acronis image of win7 workstation and save it to ext. usb disk.
2. Create new win7 vm on vmware workstation 8 with LSI SAS controller and SCSI disk.
3. Boot through vm and restored the acronis image on vm.
4. When initial boot process started I got BSOD 0x0000007B error.
5. Rebooted through Windows System Recovery disk, loaded the hive from windows installation
and changed the following reg key:
HKLM\p2v\ControlSet001\services\LSI_SAS
as described here: http://sanbarrow.com/p2v2008r2.html
6. Rebooted and now i've managed not to get bsod but the windows stuck on booting process (logo screen) without doing anything
even in safe mode.
7. I've confirmed that lsi_sas.sys and lsi_sas2.sys exist on windows\system32\drivers folder.
What am I missing?
Does the original machine use services that only make sense with that special hardware ?
If yes- you could boot the recovery CD again and try to disable them in the same way you already changed the registry before.
Cant you do anything in safe mode ?
No, it doesn't even boot in safe mode.
It stucks on loading \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CLASSPNP.SYS
should i have to try your method for disabling services? No the machine has not any special hardware configuration (raid controller etc).
do you have Converter 5 available ?
It would be worth a try to let it try the "configure machine" option against this VM
Should i try to convert the original physical machine again with vmware converter or to convert this vm again with converter?
no need to start from zero again
Just start Converter 5 - select the option "configure achine"
Then give it the path to your already existing VM
ok thank you i will try it.
Very good hint!
That worked with my problem:
Converter stopped at 98% and the VM would BOD on me.
Booting in safe mode shows that the BOD occurs when loading CLASSPNP.SYS.
After running "configure" with the converter the machine booted!
Thanks a lot
Christian
it work for me
thank u so much
