Hello, I would like to know how to mount a USB Flash Drive within a guest VM of XP Pro SP3 or VM of Windows 7 using vSphere Client 4.1.0 & vCenter 4.1.0 build 258902. I am currently a student at Cabrillo College in Aptos, CA taking courses for PC Support Specialist. I have asked the Instructors why we have USB flash drive mounting issues with vSphere Client & vCenter, but the Instructors say they cannot mount USB flash drives yet. Any help would greatly appreciated. I can be private messaged.
Welcome to the Commnuity..
Client Connected USB device feature is available in vSphere 5.0.
In vSphere 4.1 you can use Host Connected USB feature as a pass through device and assign the device to the VM
If I understand correctly, in ESX/ESXi 4.1.0 the USB Flash Drive can be connected directly to the host which would be the server, & in ESX/ESXi 5.0 a USB Flash Drive can now be connected to the workstation client. I will have to ask my Instructors if they have the ability to upgrade to 5.0. I also noticed no audio features in the Guest VM. Is that a similar issue to the USB Flash Drive?
HD audio feature is available in vSphere 5.0 with VM running Hardware Version 8, But you cannot add the device using vSphere Client you have edit VMX file for this feature.
