*Help* unable to create new VM because i deleted New Virtual Machine folder from datastore

Hello, I am a fledgling vmware admin for our school district. I have a 2008 R2 template that I deploy new virtual machines from. Today I was looking at my datastores and noticed that there was a New Virtual Machine folder inside datastore 3. I mistakenly assumed that those files were from a new VM deployment that had gone wrong and the vm had been removed. I opted to delete those files and now when i try to deploy a new VM from my template, I get the error

Clone Virtual Machine

Unable to access file [EQL-VMFS-PROD03] New Virtual Machine/New Virtual Machine-000001.vmdk

Time:XXXX

Target: 2008R2SP1

Any idea how bad what I have done actually is? Any tips on how to go about getting those files back to the datastore?

Most probably you've deleted your template from datastore. When you rename VM in vCenter - they aren't automatically renamed on datastore.

The best option - create new template.
