We are going to be moving to 10 GB ethernet in the near future.
I currently use 3 vswitches with two physical nics assigned to each switch.
Vswitch0 - SC and vmotion on one vswitch on the same vlan
Vswitch1 - Virtual machine traffic using port groups to assign vlans
Vswitch2 - Storage - 2 vlans are defined for load balancing of NFS
In our new configuration I plan to have 2 vswitches
Vswitch0 - Service console and virtual machine traffic
Vswitch2 - Storage and vmotion on seperate vlans
I had someone from our network team configure ports to test this configuration.
I requested that one set of ports be tagged for the vlan for thje service console and a couple of other vlans for vm traffic.
I installed ESXi 4.1 and specified the vlan for the service console and gave it all the correct IP information
When I test the network pings to the gateway and DNS servers fail.
I checked back with the network person he reports that the ports are tagged for the vlans I requested.
So I'm stuck in testing.
Any recommendations on troubleshooting this?
Can you please post a screen shot of the virtual network configuration, showing the different vSwitches and port groups?
How many hosts do you have in your environment?
André
PS: Make sure the native VLAN on the switch ports does not match any of the VLANs configured on the port groups!
We have 9 hosts but are quickly expanding.
Are you asking for a screenshot of our current configuration?
What I'd like to see is the configuration you are having issues with.

I would have to be able to communuicate with the host on the network to show you the configuration. I didn't see any purpose in finishing the installation when I can;t communicate with the SC.

That's a valid point, sorry I missed this
IMO there's an issue with the VLAN/port configuration. Either the native VLAN matches the VLAN configured for the SC port group or there's an issue with the port configuration on the physical switch (see e.g. http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004074)
