USB Network Adapter

I am trying to use the USB21000S from StarTech as an USB Network Adapter in a virtual machine running Windows 7 (32 bits) (VMWare Workstation 7.1.3 build-32428). I installed the drivers and the USB adapter is recognized by Windows (guest only, I didn't install the drivers in the host). It works but not for a long time. Each time I am downloading a file, the adapter stop working after less than 1 minute. I have to re-plug the USB adapter or change some settings that reset the adapter like the Diagnose option. When I am using the wired network adapter (Bridged) from the host (Windows 7 64 bits) I have no problems but I cannot use this option because I need to have my host and the guest running into 2 differents networks.

Is anybody have an idea of how I can fix this issue?

Thanks

What country are you in?
Does the USB adapter work on the Host?

Yes it works in the host. I just download a file of 90Mb without any problem.

PS: Canada

I also tried to connect the USB network adapter in the host (not visible as a USB device from the guest) and I disconnect the wired network adapter. I have the same result, from the host it works but from the guest I loose my connexion and I have to reset the adapter.

in case you try to use the usb-device as ethernet - didyou disable automatic bridging and assigned vmnet2 for example to the device ?

What is automatic bridging? In my case to be sure Windows use my USB Network Adapter instead of my physical network adapter, I disconnect the Network Adapter in the settings of my VM. But when I was using the VM Network Adapter from the hots it was a brigded connection. So in my case Windows (guest) see only one network connection and it's from my USB device which is connected in the guest (disconnected from the host).

I finally found a solution for my problem which was to have a different network adapter for the host and the guest on my laptop where I cannot add another network adapter card. The solution is briefly described in the following article

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102035....

I was trying to use the USB network adapter in the guest but the connection always broke after few seconds of download but this network adapter works in the host. The solution consists to use the USB network adapter for the host where I disable the "WMWare Brigde Procotol" and use the wired network adapter for the guest where I only enable the "VMWare Bridge Protocol".
