Upgrading ESXi 4.1 - VMware essential Plus

Hi, I need advise on how to upgrade my existing 2 VM farms. I already have the VMware 5 media kit.

1. VMware ESXi 4.1 essential Plus

i. I am asking my software vendor as how to upgrade my VMware ESXi 4.1 essential Plus ubscription and license to VMware ESXi 5.0 essential Plus.

ii. The below would be carried out once I have the License-Key (please correct if I am wrong)

- Update the vCenter using the vCenter Server CD (install over the existing version in Windows).

- clear one of the ESXi host (vMotion VMs to other hosts)

- reboot the ESXi host using the VMware ESXi CD, choose the option to install 5.0

2. Please advise if I can also install it onto a Internal SD card and what would be the size required ?

Hi

I would read upgrade doc first click on Upgrade  ESXi and vCenter Server

http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp

In general your upgrade strpsa are correct but there is one point which is missing, vCenter DB backup before vCenter upgrade 😉

- reboot the ESXi host using the VMware ESXi CD, choose the option to install 5.0

Vmware update manager can do that for you

2. Please advise if I can also install it onto a Internal SD card and what would be the size required ?

I think it should fit into 2GB SD card without problems
