Linux partitioning scheme

I'd like to get some opinions on the best partitioning scheme for a Linux template.   This is the master "gold" image that is going to be used to create all other linux templates.  Considering best practices, and what users tend to ask for and prefer, what is the best way to lay out partitions?  How many partitions and of what size - using or not using LVM, etc.  Thanks

IMHO it depends on users' requests.

I would say to isolate partitions for:

/home - users' data can grow block system from running when disks are full

/var/log - log data can grow block system from running when disks are full
